About the Uganda trip

Cycling trip in Uganda: from Kidepo to the green west

Would you like not just to see Uganda but to experience it in all its variety? This is one of our most complete cycling trips through the Pearl of Africa. Over twenty days you travel right across the country and visit six national parks. You go on safari in the remote Kidepo Valley National Park, stand at the thundering water of Murchison Falls and see the green, hilly west by bike. In the Kyambura Gorge you look for chimpanzees, and in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park you head into the bamboo forest to meet golden monkeys. Would you like to make the trip more complete still? You can then take part in an optional gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You travel from the waterfalls and green mountainsides at Sipi to the dry plains of Karamoja and the wide savannah of Kidepo. By way of the Nile at Murchison Falls you finally reach western Uganda. Here you get on the bike for a varied ride between coffee and tea plantations, crater lakes, villages, rainforest and volcanoes.

Uganda by vehicle, on foot, from the water and by bike

It is the combination that makes this trip exceptional. In the first week you cover the longer distances comfortably by vehicle. That is needed to reach the remote north-east and Kidepo Valley National Park. The travelling days are long at times, but they take you to a part of Uganda that many trips leave out. From day 9 the bike takes the leading role. You ride quiet country roads and unsurfaced tracks past crater lakes, through savannah and rainforest and through small villages where daily life largely takes place outdoors.

For us the bike is not the goal but the means to get to know Uganda properly. On the bike you are not watching from a distance but become part of everything happening around you. You see the landscape change slowly, smell the coffee and tea plantations and feel the heat, the wind and sometimes a refreshing shower. You hear the sounds from the villages, see children run alongside you for a stretch and meet the people who give Uganda its warm and welcoming character. There is every opportunity to stop, have a conversation and take in whatever comes your way.

You stay close to the country away from the riding stages as well. You walk to waterfalls and through rainforest, look for chimpanzees and golden monkeys and see wildlife from the Nile, the Kazinga Channel and Lake Mburo. That, for us, is the strength of this trip: you do not only see Uganda, you smell, feel and experience it.

Riding at your level

Uganda is hilly, but do not let that put you off. With a good level of base fitness you can join this trip. Our cycling guide adapts the routes, distances and pace to the level and the energy of the travellers. One day you ride easily along a rolling country road, the next a longer climb or an unsurfaced section is waiting. Would you like to skip a climb, part of a stage or a whole riding day? That is possible. The vehicle is always close by while you ride, so you can get in and, if you wish, ride on again later.

If you would like some extra support, you can choose an e-mountain bike. That makes the hillier stages considerably more manageable. It is your trip and your adventure: you decide how much you ride, we take care of the route, the guiding and the support.

Safaris by vehicle, on foot, from the water and by bike

On this trip you do not see the national parks from a safari vehicle alone. You travel up the Nile towards Murchison Falls, see wildlife along the Kazinga Channel and take a boat trip on Lake Mburo.

In Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park you even get on the bike. Alongside our cycling guide and driver, a ranger comes along in these wildlife areas. The ranger knows the area and the behaviour of the animals and decides together with the cycling guide where and how riding is safe. During these cycling safaris the vehicle is always close by as well.

Highlights

What makes this Uganda cycling trip stand out

This is not only a cycling trip and not only a safari. You travel right across Uganda, visit six national parks and see the country by vehicle, on foot, from the water and by bike. From remote Kidepo to the rainforests and volcanoes of the south-west, every region shows a different Uganda.

Six national parks in one trip

On this trip you visit Kidepo Valley, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable, Mgahinga Gorilla and Lake Mburo National Park. Each park has its own landscape, wildlife and character. You travel from wide savannah and the Nile to crater lakes, rainforest and volcanic mountains. At times it feels as though you are seeing several countries in one trip. That variety is what makes this one of our most complete cycling trips through Uganda.

Kidepo: far from the usual routes

Kidepo Valley National Park lies deep in the north-east and is visited by relatively few travellers. It is not only about lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra and buffalo here. It is above all the space, the quiet and the mountains on the horizon that make an impression.

Since March 2026 white rhino live in Kidepo again. The reintroduction is still building up, so you will not automatically see the animals on a game drive. That the rhino has returned after more than forty years makes this remote area more remarkable still.

Safari by vehicle, boat and bike

On this trip you see wildlife from a different perspective each time. You scan the savannah on game drives, travel up the Nile towards Murchison Falls and see the banks of the Kazinga Channel and Lake Mburo from the water. In Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park you even get on the bike. Alongside our cycling guide and driver, a ranger comes along. He knows the area and the behaviour of the animals and decides together with the guide where and how riding is safe. The vehicle is always close by.

Chimpanzees, golden monkeys and optionally gorillas

Uganda is one of the best destinations in Africa for encounters with primates. In the wooded Kyambura Gorge you go out with a ranger to look for chimpanzees. In Mgahinga Gorilla National Park you head through the bamboo forest to golden monkeys.

Would you like to meet mountain gorillas as well? On the free day in Bwindi you can take part in an optional gorilla trek. How long the walk takes is not known in advance. But as soon as you find the gorillas and see them moving through the rainforest at close range, the effort is quickly forgotten.

Riding in the middle of daily life

For us the bike is not the goal but the means to get to know Uganda properly. On the bike you are not watching from a distance but become part of everything happening around you. You see the landscape change slowly, smell the coffee and tea plantations and feel the heat, the wind and sometimes a refreshing shower. You hear the sounds from the villages, see children run alongside you for a stretch and meet the people who give Uganda its warm and welcoming character. There is every opportunity to stop, have a conversation and take in whatever comes your way.

Every riding day at your level

Uganda is hilly, but do not let that put you off. The cycling guide matches the route, the distance and the pace to the level and the energy of the travellers.

You choose a mountain bike or an e-mountain bike. Would you like to skip a climb, a technical section or a whole riding day? Then you get into the vehicle and can ride on again later if you wish. That way you have the freedom of riding, with the guiding and support you need.

From savannah to rainforest

The landscape keeps changing on this trip. You begin among the green slopes and waterfalls of Mount Elgon, travel through dry Karamoja and look out over the savannah of Kidepo. In western Uganda you ride between coffee, tea and crater lakes, after which the surroundings become steadily greener and hillier.

Finally you reach the rainforests of Bwindi, the Virunga volcanoes and the lakes of the south-west. The trip ends on the bike among the zebra, giraffe and antelope of Lake Mburo National Park. Uganda keeps surprising you until the last day.

Day-to-day

Day by day: 20 days through Uganda

From the green slopes of Mount Elgon to the savannah of Kidepo, and from the thundering water of Murchison Falls to the rainforests and volcanoes of the south-west. Below you can read how this complete cycling trip through Uganda is built up.

In the first week you travel mainly by vehicle, so that you can also see the remote north-east and Kidepo Valley National Park. From day 9 the bike takes the leading role. The routes and distances are a starting point. Our cycling guide matches the programme to the weather, the conditions and the level and energy of the travellers. The vehicle is always close by while you ride, and an e-mountain bike is possible as well.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Today you fly from Amsterdam or Brussels to Entebbe. As soon as you arrive in Uganda you meet the warmth and liveliness of the country. Welcome to the Pearl of Africa.

After customs our local team is waiting for you. You are taken to your hotel on the shore of Lake Victoria, where you can recover from the flight and prepare for the trip that really begins tomorrow.

    Accommodation: 2 Friends Beach Hotel

Meals: not included; most flights arrive late in the evening

  • Day 2: From Entebbe to Sipi Falls

After breakfast you leave Entebbe and travel towards eastern Uganda. Along the way you pass busy towns such as Jinja and Mbale. Beside the road you see markets, small shops, villages and daily life taking place largely outdoors. You take time for lunch along the way and stop regularly. Slowly you leave the bustle behind and the road climbs to the green slopes of Mount Elgon.

At Sipi you put on your walking shoes and walk through deep green country and small settlements to the three Sipi waterfalls. As you get closer, the water grows louder until you see it dropping down the steep rock walls.

At the end of the day another moment is waiting that stays with you. As the sun goes down and puts the landscape in warm golden light, you look out from Mount Elgon towards the wide plains of Pian Upe. Ahead of you lies the vast openness of eastern Uganda: a first taste of what the coming days hold.

Accommodation: Home of Friends or similar
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Transfer: around 6 hours, depending on traffic and stops along the way

  • Day 3: From Sipi Falls to Moroto

After breakfast you travel further north-east towards Karamoja. The green slopes of Mount Elgon give way to drier plains, rocky mountains and wide savannah. The drive gives a good picture of the differences within Uganda. You pass villages and communities each with their own character and watch daily life go by along the route. In the afternoon you reach Moroto at the foot of Mount Moroto. You are now in the heart of Karamoja, a rugged and relatively little-visited part of Uganda.

If there is enough time, you can spend the afternoon actively. Choose a walk towards the St Lawrence waterfall on Mount Moroto, for example. The path climbs steeply and can be demanding in places. The full walk takes around five hours and asks for good fitness and sturdy walking shoes. You can also choose a shorter part of the walk. Would you rather be on the bike? Then you can take a first ride through the rugged landscape around Moroto.

    Accommodation: Karatunga Arts
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

    Transfer: 4 to 5 hours

Optional: a walk on Mount Moroto or a ride in the area

  • Day 4: Meeting Karamoja and on to Kidepo

In the morning you visit a local community and get to know the culture and daily life of Karamoja. You see how important cattle, family and tradition are within the community and get an insight into a way of life closely tied to the landscape.

You then get into the vehicle for the drive to Kidepo Valley National Park. The road takes you further into the remote north-east. Along the way you look out over valleys, mountains and endless plains. At the end of the afternoon you reach the lodge at Kidepo Valley National Park. It is a long day’s travel, but when the savannah and the mountains of Kidepo appear ahead of you, you know why you have come all this way.

    Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

    Transfer: 4 to 5 hours

  • Day 5: Safari and meeting the Karamojong

You are up early for a game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park. In the cool of the morning many animals are active and the rising sun slowly turns the savannah gold. In the Narus Valley water remains available even in dry periods, so many animals gather here. You look for large herds of buffalo, elephant, zebra, giraffe and various antelope species. With luck you will see a lion, leopard or cheetah. Look up regularly as well: hundreds of bird species have been recorded in Kidepo and you may even come across ostrich in the wild. Since March 2026 white rhino live in Kidepo Valley National Park again. Because this reintroduction is still building up, it does not automatically mean you will see the animals on the game drive.

In the afternoon you visit a traditional Karamojong manyatta. You see how the settlement is built and hear more about the traditions and daily life of the community.

At the end of the day you return to the lodge. With the savannah in front of you and the mountains on the horizon, you let the impressions settle.

    Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Day 6: From Kidepo to Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast you leave Kidepo for a long day’s travel to Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way you again see a great deal of the landscape and daily life in northern Uganda. The dry savannah of Kidepo slowly gives way to farmland and more densely wooded country. You stop in Gulu for lunch and then travel on towards the park. In the course of the afternoon or early evening you reach the lodge, where you can relax and prepare for tomorrow’s safaris.

    Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

    Transfer: 6 to 7 hours

  • Day 7: Safari and a boat trip on the Nile

Early in the morning you set off for a game drive across the savannah on the northern side of the Nile. As the first light falls over the landscape you go out with the guide to look for elephant, lion, Cape buffalo and Rothschild’s giraffe. Hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi and bushbuck are also seen here regularly. With luck a leopard will cross your path.

After lunch you swap the savannah for the water. You travel upstream along the Nile towards the foot of Murchison Falls. Because of the strong current the boat stays at a safe distance from the falls, but there is plenty to see along the way.

Hippo raise their heads above the water, crocodiles warm themselves on the bank and elephant and other wildlife come down to the river to drink. There is a great deal for birdwatchers too. Goliath herons, kingfishers, pelicans and various other water birds are at home here. With a great deal of luck you may even see a shoebill.

    Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Day 8: Top of the Falls and on to Katambale Village

After breakfast you visit the Top of the Falls. Here the wide Victoria Nile is forced through a gorge of around eight metres, after which the water drops some 45 metres. You hear the roar, feel the spray and see how much force the river uses to push between the rocks. Take the time to look around and see this at close range. It is not only a place you see but above all a place you feel.

You then leave Murchison Falls National Park and travel to Katambale Village in western Uganda. Along the way you pass busy villages, small markets and stalls at the roadside. Does something catch your interest? There is room to stop along the way.

At the end of the day you reach Clarke Farm, where you stay among the coffee plantations. Tomorrow you get on the bike for the first full stage.

Accommodation: The Coffee Lodge at Clarke Farm
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

    Transfer: 4 to 6 hours

  • Day 9: The first kilometres to Fort Portal

Today the riding really begins. From Katambale Village you ride between coffee plantations and rolling tea fields, through green forest and along quiet country roads towards Fort Portal. On the bike you are not watching from a distance but become part of everything happening around you. You smell the plantations, hear the sounds from the villages and meet the people who live along the route. Children wave and sometimes run alongside you for a stretch. There is every opportunity to stop along the way when something catches your attention.

You stay at Kyaninga Royal Cottages, set in the green crater landscape near Fort Portal. Depending on when you arrive, you can see more of the town or the surrounding area. Visit a local market, take a guided walk through the town or see the palace of the king of Tooro.

There is plenty to see outside the town as well. The Amabere ga Nyinamwiru caves and a walk in the surrounding crater landscape are among the options.

    Accommodation: Kyaninga Royal Cottages
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cycling route: matched to the level and energy of the travellers

  • Day 10: Past crater lakes to Queen Elizabeth National Park

From the Fort Portal area you get back on the bike. In clear weather you can see the peaks of the Rwenzori range in the distance. You ride past crater lakes, through forest and between banana plantations and wide tea fields. In small villages you are regularly greeted with an enthusiastic “Mzungu”. Children wave and residents are glad to have a word. On the bike those encounters happen almost of their own accord. In Rwimi you stop for a drink at a local bar. If you are there early and still have energy, you can ride on from the village towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Just before the park you stop at the equator. The bikes are then loaded onto the vehicle and you drive into the savannah. Along the way you look for elephant, buffalo, antelope and other wildlife. Towards evening you reach Irungu Lodge, where the sounds of the surroundings are never far away.

    Accommodation: Irungu Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Day 11: Chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge and safari

In the middle of the open savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park lies an unexpectedly green world. With a ranger you descend into the Kyambura Gorge, around a hundred metres deep.

Under the dense canopy you look for chimpanzees. You may first hear a call, a branch breaking or a rustle above you, before you spot movement among the leaves. Alongside chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus and various bird species live here. An encounter with chimpanzees can never be guaranteed. It is not only the moment you may see them but the searching, listening and following of their tracks that makes the trek what it is.

In the afternoon you take a game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park. You scan the savannah for elephant, buffalo, lion and possibly a leopard. Afterwards you visit the salt lakes and meet a local community that lives and works in this area. At the end of the day you return to the lodge, where the sounds of the savannah slowly take over the evening.

    Accommodation: Irungu Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

    Included: chimpanzee trek and permit

  • Day 12: The Kazinga Channel and riding towards Ishasha

The day begins with a short ride to the jetty for the boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. Because you are riding in a wildlife area, a ranger comes along alongside our cycling guide and driver. The vehicle is always close by.

From the boat you see the park from another perspective. Hippo raise their heads above the water, crocodiles lie along the bank and buffalo and elephant come down regularly to drink. Meanwhile water birds come and go. Sometimes so much is happening to the left of the boat that you almost forget to look right.

After the boat safari you get back on the bike. You can choose a shorter or longer stage of 50 to 75 kilometres towards Ishasha. The cycling guide and ranger match the route to the weather, the conditions and your level. Knowing that elephant, buffalo and lion live here makes every kilometre count. If wildlife appears on or beside the route, the ranger decides whether you wait, adjust the route or cover a section by vehicle. Ishasha is known for the lions that regularly rest in fig trees. Whether they show themselves today is up to nature, and that is exactly what makes a safari what it is.

Would you like to skip a section along the way? Then you get into the vehicle and can ride on again later if you wish.

    Accommodation: Enjojo Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Distance: 50 to 75 kilometres; a shorter route is possible

Guiding: cycling guide, driver and ranger

Leeuw in boom Queen elizabeth Oeganda
  • Day 13: From the savannah to Bwindi

Today you see and feel the landscape change. The open savannah around Ishasha gives way to villages, tea plantations and steadily greener hills. On the bike you notice every difference. The air becomes cooler, the vegetation denser and the roads hillier. On largely unsurfaced country roads you climb towards Buhoma at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The greetings from people along the route give you fresh energy, exactly when you can use it. It is a varied stage in which you move from open savannah steadily closer to the rainforest.

Accommodation: Ride 4 a Woman or Buhoma Community Camp

    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cycling route: matched to the level and the conditions

  • Day 14: Free day, gorilla trek or Batwa experience

Today you decide how to spend the day. You can relax at the lodge or choose one of the optional activities.

    Optional gorilla trek

If you choose the gorilla trek, you head into the rainforest of Bwindi with experienced rangers. How long and how demanding the walk will be cannot be predicted in advance. The gorillas live freely in the forest and can be in a different place each day. The terrain can be steep, muddy and densely overgrown. Sometimes the rangers cut a way through the vegetation. Sturdy shoes, good fitness and a sense of adventure come in useful here.

Once the gorilla group has been found, you can stay with the animals for a maximum of one hour. Wearing a face mask you watch young gorillas play and a silverback keep an eye on the group. You hear branches cracking and the soft rumble of the animals. An hour sounds long but is often over before you realise it.

    Cost: EUR 800.00 pp

    Optional Batwa experience

Would you prefer a cultural activity? Then you can take part in a Batwa experience. With Batwa guides you walk through the area and learn how they once lived in and from the rainforest as hunter-gatherers.

The guides show which plants and herbs were used, how they hunted with bow and arrow and what knowledge was needed to live in the forest. By sharing their stories and skills they keep an important part of their culture alive.

    Cost: EUR 50.00 pp

Accommodation: Ride 4 a Woman or Buhoma Community Camp

    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Optional (not included): gorilla trek or Batwa experience

  • Day 15: Riding from Buhoma to Ruhija

After breakfast you get back on the bike. The route starts on a rolling unsurfaced road, so you can loosen the legs. After a suspension bridge the character of the stage changes. A steep climb follows and, later, a more technical descent that asks for extra concentration.

You do not have to ride every section. The guide looks with you at which route best suits your experience, energy and wishes. A demanding or technical stretch can be shortened or skipped. The vehicle stays close by, and with an e-mountain bike you get extra support on the climbs.

Along the way you ride through the green, hilly landscape around Bwindi. The filtered light between the trees, the cool air and the many shades of green give this stage an atmosphere of its own.

Accommodation: Gorilla Mist Camp or Bakiga Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cycling route: matched to your level and the conditions

  • Day 16: From Ruhija to Lake Mulehe

From Ruhija you get on the bike for the last stretch through Bwindi. Slowly you leave the dense green of Bwindi behind and the volcanoes around Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe come into view. Lake Mulehe lies hidden among green hills, terraced farmland and small islands. Local farmers grow coffee, bananas and potatoes here, among other crops.

Accommodation: Mulehe Gorilla Lodge or Lake Mutanda Resort
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cycling route: matched to the level and the conditions

  • Day 17: Golden monkeys and on to Lake Bunyonyi

You are up early and drive to the headquarters of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. After the briefing you meet the rangers and guides who will accompany you on the golden monkey trek.

In the higher bamboo forest you look for these fast, agile monkeys. Your guide follows their tracks and tells you about the forest and the animals that live here along the way. When you find the group, you see the golden monkeys feeding, playing with one another and moving quickly through the bamboo. The trek is generally less demanding than a gorilla trek, but muddy paths, height differences and steeper sections can still make the walk challenging.

After the trek you travel on by vehicle towards Lake Bunyonyi. For the last part you get back on the bike. On rolling roads you ride past villages, fields and green hills to the lake.

There you board a boat for the crossing to the wooded island of Habuharo. On the island you can take a canoe trip, walk or simply take in the quiet and the view over Lake Bunyonyi and its 29 islands.

    Accommodation: Heritage Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Included: golden monkey trek and permit

  • Day 18: On to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast the bikes are loaded onto the vehicle and you travel to Lake Mburo National Park.

Along the way you stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre, where you get to know the history and traditions of the Ankole region. You can see traditional homesteads and visit the museum, with crafts, household objects and historical photographs.

After arriving at the lodge you can fill the rest of the afternoon as you wish. Stretch your legs with a walk in the area or take in the view over the rolling landscape around Lake Mburo National Park.

Accommodation: Hyena Hill Lodge or Kigarama Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Day 19: Cycling safari in Lake Mburo National Park

On your last riding day everything that makes this trip what it is comes together one more time. In Lake Mburo National Park you get on the mountain bike with our cycling guide and a ranger for a safari on two wheels. On unsurfaced tracks you ride through a landscape of savannah, acacia woodland and lakes. Zebra graze in the open, giraffe rise above the scrub, and impala, eland and other antelope may cross your route.

The ranger watches the surroundings and decides together with the cycling guide where riding is safe. Our driver follows with the vehicle and stays close by throughout. If wildlife appears on or beside the route, the ranger decides whether you wait, adjust the route or cover a section by vehicle.

Along the way you visit the Hippo Pool and ride to Kazuma Lookout Point. After the climb you look out over the lake and the surrounding savannah. Later you swap the bike for a boat one last time and see Lake Mburo from the water.

Accommodation: Hyena Hill Lodge or Kigarama Lodge
    Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Guiding: cycling guide, driver and ranger

  • Day 20: Back to Entebbe and the flight home

After breakfast you get into the vehicle for the journey back to Entebbe. Along the way you cross the equator again and watch the Ugandan landscape go by one last time.

Later in the afternoon you reach Entebbe. Depending on your flight time there may still be an opportunity to have dinner at your own expense. Our team then takes you to the airport for the flight home.

    Meals: breakfast

    Transfer: to Entebbe International Airport

Your tailor-made Uganda trip

Would you like to travel with your own party, stay longer or adjust the route? We are glad to put the trip together to measure. We can also adjust the number of riding days, the activities and the standard of accommodation. Within one trip you can combine simpler places, mid-range accommodation and more comfortable lodges, so you decide where you want more comfort and where a smaller-scale stay suits the surroundings and your budget better.

Accommodation and safety

Where you stay on your cycling trip through Uganda

On this trip you stay in a varied combination of small hotels, guesthouses and lodges. Sometimes you sleep surrounded by nature, with a view over savannah, rainforest or a lake. On other days you stay closer to a town or village. That variety suits a trip that crosses almost the whole of Uganda.

We select the accommodation for its setting, atmosphere, hospitality and the comfort you need after an active day. The example trip has been put together with mid-range accommodation. You can count on a good room, a private bathroom and a good place to unwind after a day’s riding, a safari or a transfer. The level of comfort and the facilities can differ by region. In remote Karamoja and around Kidepo, for instance, the choice is more limited than in the better-known parts of western Uganda. Which places are finally booked also depends on availability on your departure date.

From simple to comfortable

Are you booking this trip to measure? Then we can combine different levels of comfort. You may want a little extra comfort during a safari while preferring a simple, small-scale stay somewhere else.

A place does not have to be luxurious to be worth staying in. Sometimes the charm lies in the setting, the people who welcome you or the view you wake up to. We discuss in advance what matters to you and look for accommodation that suits your wishes and your budget.

Riding safely through Uganda

On the riding stages you are accompanied by our experienced local cycling guide and driver. They know the routes, the landscape and the conditions along the way.

The state of roads and tracks can change through rain, roadworks or local traffic. We therefore look each day at which route best suits the weather, the conditions and the level of the travellers. The guide can adjust the distance, shorten a route or avoid a demanding section.

The vehicle is always close by while you ride. Would you like to skip a climb, part of the route or a whole riding day? Then you get into the vehicle and can ride on again later if you wish.

Riding in Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park

In Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park you ride accompanied by a ranger as well as our cycling guide and driver. The ranger knows the area and the behaviour of the animals and decides together with our cycling guide where and how riding is safe.

The driver follows with the support vehicle and stays close by throughout. If an elephant, buffalo or other animal appears unexpectedly on or beside the route, the ranger assesses the situation. Sometimes you wait, sometimes the route is adjusted and sometimes a section is covered by vehicle.

Wildlife cannot be planned, and that is exactly what makes riding in these areas what it is. The instructions of the cycling guide, driver and ranger are always followed. Safety comes before kilometres.

Personal guiding throughout the Uganda trip

Alongside the cycling guide, an experienced driver travels with you. Our local team knows Uganda, speaks the local languages and knows what is happening along the way. The guides are honest about how demanding a route is and about the conditions, and adjust the programme when needed. On walks, treks and other activities in the national parks you also go out with local guides or rangers who know the area well. The route, the guiding and the support are arranged, but you decide how much you ride. That way it stays your trip and your adventure.
