The Tour of Karamoja was a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. Eight days of cycling through one of Uganda’s most remote regions, following the border with Kenya and heading towards South Sudan.
Claudia and René from CvA Travel provided excellent support throughout the journey, and the Specialized bikes were first class. Getting to the starting point takes a full day’s drive, where you join a group of around 50 fellow cyclists.
From that moment on, the supportteam takes care of everything: spacious sleeping tents, all meals from breakfast through to dinner, showers and toilet facilities. Boda boda riders accompany the group along the route, leaving you free to focus on the riding.
And that is no small challenge. The roads and tracks are rough, steep and demanding, and staying dry is impossible when you find yourself crossing rivers up to your knees. Covering 80 to 100 kilometres a day under these conditions is tough, but incredibly rewarding.
In short, this is a challenging expedition, made possible by the excellent support from CvA Travel and the outstanding organisation behind the event. An unforgettable experience.
