Touring Uganda: Discover the Country Actively and Up Close

A tour through Uganda is the ideal way to truly experience the versatility of this African country. From green hills and rainforests to savannahs, waterfalls, and national parks full of wildlife: Uganda surprises you anew every day. During our tours, you combine active travel with in-depth exploration. You don’t just move from highlight to highlight, but experience the route in between just as intensely. Whether you choose an individual tour or a group trip, by mountain bike or e-mountain bike: we provide routes, guidance, and support that suit your level and travel style.

Why Uganda is the Ultimate Destination for a Tour

Uganda is called the ‘Pearl of Africa’, and as soon as you are there, you understand why. The country offers a unique combination that you hardly find anywhere else. Whereas many African countries are known for either their wildlife or their landscapes, Uganda has it all. During a tour, you see the landscape changing daily: from dense, misty rainforests and vast tea plantations to open savannahs and mountain ranges.

But what makes a tour through Uganda truly special is the atmosphere. The country is known for the genuine friendliness of its people. From the moment you arrive at the airport, where you are greeted with a smile rather than a sullen face, you feel welcome. While travelling, especially on a bike, you are in direct contact with your surroundings. You smell the scents of the country, hear the sounds of the jungle, and easily make contact with the people along the way.

Making an Impact

We believe it is important that our tours also give something back to the local population. We work with local teams and stay in accommodations that support the community. On specific trips, such as the Tour of Karamoja, there is even a direct link with a charity, where participants contribute to girls’ education.

Comfortable Overnight Stays in Special Places During Your Tour of Uganda

After a day full of impressions and activity, a good night’s sleep is essential. During the tours through Uganda, you stay in carefully selected accommodations. We consciously choose small-scale lodges and guesthouses with atmosphere. You sleep in unique locations, surrounded by nature.

Imagine: you wake up in a comfortable lodge with a view over the savannah, where you see the animals walking in the distance. Or you stay on an island in the fairytale Lake Bunyonyi, surrounded by water and green hills. On some adventurous trips, like in Karamoja, we use ‘lazy camping’: you sleep in a tent, but on a real mattress, and everything is already set up for you upon arrival.

The Unique Way of Touring in Uganda: The ‘African Massage’

At CvA travel, we believe that you only truly get to know a country when you leave the beaten track. Our tours, therefore, largely take place on unpaved roads (gravel roads). This brings you to places where buses and standard tourist vehicles do not go. You cycle through small villages and right through nature.

The roads in Uganda are often red in colour and can be bumpy, full of potholes and holes. Our local guide Lawrence jokingly calls this the ‘African massage’. It’s part of the adventure. You sometimes literally bounce over the road, but the pace is slower than in a car. Because of this, you see more, experience the surroundings more intensely, and have time to wave at the children who enthusiastically run along with you.

Touring Individually or in a Group?

At CvA travel, we offer two ways to tour Uganda:

  • Group trips: You join a small group of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 (or on some trips up to 20) participants. This is sociable, you share the experiences, and there is always a fun dynamic. The departure dates are fixed.

  • Individual tours: You travel with your own party (partner, family, or friends), but with the full guidance of a guide and driver. You determine your own departure date and have maximum flexibility along the way to stop wherever and whenever you want.

Whichever format you choose, we ensure perfect preparation and guidance so that you can carefree enjoy the Pearl of Africa.

Culture and Encounters Along the Way in Uganda

Uganda is called the country of smiles, and during a tour, you experience why. The people are open, welcoming, and curious. Because you are travelling by bike, the threshold for contact is low. You easily stop at a local market to taste fresh fruit, such as pineapple or mango, or chat with people in a village.

Our local guides play a key role in this. They are Ugandans who proudly show off their country. They don’t just tell you about the route but also immerse you in their culture and traditions. They teach you about daily life, customs, and the history of the places you visit. This provides a depth that you often miss as an individual tourist in a car.

A Rare Biodiversity in Uganda

The nature in Uganda is overwhelming. The country is home to the famous Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino), but also unique primates such as chimpanzees and the endangered mountain gorillas. In addition, it is a paradise for bird lovers with countless colourful species. This wealth of animals makes every day of the tour exciting.

Who is a Tour of Uganda Suitable For?

Our tours are designed for the active traveller who loves nature and adventure. You do not need to be a top athlete, but a basic level of fitness and an enjoyment of cycling are important. Thanks to the support of the accompanying vehicle and the option to rent an e-mountain bike, the trips are accessible to a broad group.
