Active Holiday in Uganda
Active holiday in Uganda: experiencing by moving
An active holiday in Uganda means experiencing the country by being on the move yourself. Not from a vehicle, but right in the middle of the landscape. You cycle through green hills and savannahs, hike through nature reserves, and regularly come face to face with the daily life of the local population. Uganda is ideally suited for active travellers who love being outdoors, but do not want to push themselves to the limit every single day. It is precisely the variation between exertion and experience that makes an active holiday here so special. Whether you choose cycling as the main component or combine it with other activities, you discover Uganda at a pace that leaves room for genuine impressions.

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking
Besides cycling, Uganda offers fantastic opportunities for hiking. The best-known and most impressive hike is the gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is a physical challenge that you should not underestimate. Led by rangers, you make your way through dense undergrowth and steep slopes. The rangers clear the way with machetes. It is sweaty work and a lot of climbing, but as soon as you come face to face with a mountain gorilla, you forget the exertion.
Another active option is searching for chimpanzees. This can be done, for example, in the Kyambura Gorge or in Kibale Forest. You walk through the tropical rainforest looking for these noisy and fascinating primates. Walking in these primeval forests adds a completely different dimension to your active holiday than cycling on the open roads.

Well-prepared and safely on the road during your active holiday in Uganda
On an active holiday, safety and support are crucial. You don’t want to end up stranded with a broken bike in the middle of nowhere. Our local guides are trained in ‘advanced mechanics’ and can solve most technical problems immediately. Our head guide Lawrence was specially trained for this in the Netherlands.
We ensure safe routes and good accommodations where you can wonderfully rest after an active day. Whether you sleep in a lodge by the water or in a comfortable tent (‘lazy camping’) with a good mattress: your body gets the rest it needs. This way, you start every day fit for a new adventure in the Pearl of Africa.

Why an active holiday in Uganda is different
Many people visit Africa sitting in a safari jeep. With an active holiday, you turn that around: you become a participant instead of a spectator. Uganda, the ‘Pearl of Africa’, lends itself perfectly to this. The climate is pleasant and nature is enormously diverse. By cycling or walking, you are in direct contact with your surroundings. You smell the flowers and the red earth, you feel the sun and the wind, and you hear the sounds of the jungle and the savannah without the roar of an engine.
An important part of the experience is what our guides call the ‘African massage’. Because you mostly cycle on unpaved roads, you really feel the surface. The roads are sometimes full of potholes and bumps, giving you a good shaking. It might sound uncomfortable, but it provides a lot of fun and an authentic experience of the African landscape. You are truly ‘on the road’ and not just relocating.
