17-Day Group Cycling Tour in Uganda: Discover This Beautiful African Country by Bike

How unique do you want it to be? Whilst cycling, you will discover an abundance of nature, be constantly amazed, and experience adventures you won’t easily forget. And the best part? This group tour is suitable for multiple skill levels.

The Highlights of This Group Cycling Tour in Uganda

Travelling in Uganda is fantastic, but do you already know the highlights of this specific group tour?

Murchison Falls

The absolute highlight of this group tour through Uganda has to be the Murchison Falls. The water from the Nile plunges down at breakneck speed through an 8-metre-wide gorge. This natural spectacle is one that will stay with you for a long time. The activities around this area make this trip truly special: from a boat cruise to spotting wildlife, and from an evening walk to the top to watching a stunning sunset from the falls. Pure enjoyment guaranteed.

The Most Beautiful Waterfalls in Uganda

This group tour through Uganda won’t just take you to one, two, or even three waterfalls. You can’t even count them on two hands! Besides the massive, powerful Murchison Falls, we will also visit the Ssezibwa, Griffin, and Kalagala Falls. Furthermore, we’ll be surprised on other days by smaller, unknown streams that certainly won’t go unnoticed.

Small Groups

The great thing about this cycling holiday is that you head out in groups of 4 adventurers. Each group is accompanied by a guide and a driver. This way, there is room for everyone’s skill level, there’s plenty of attention and guidance for everyone, and you barely even realise you are on a group tour. Moreover, a departure is almost always guaranteed this way. Do you want to hit the road as a couple with another befriended couple? Then that naturally provides the green light for departure.

The route you will take during this group tour through Uganda

This group tour starts in the Ugandan city of Kampala, the capital of the country. With a group of at least 4 mountain bikers and/or e-mountain bikers, you will cycle a fantastic route through this Pearl of Africa. This group tour is all about nature, national parks, waterfalls, tropical rainforests, and a high chance of spotting the Big 5. It is a varied group tour, and the routes can be adjusted to the needs of the group.

At CvA travel, a great atmosphere and fun always come first. We cycle in small groups, which makes it always possible to tailor the trip to the group’s needs. Moreover, the levels are—if possible—divided across 3 categories. Our guide pays attention to this every single day. Would you rather explore a different part of Uganda? Then check the options.

Cycling and safari in Murchison Falls National Park with the group

Murchison Falls National Park is the largest national park in Uganda and a paradise for wildlife lovers. During this trip, we combine cycling with unforgettable safari experiences. The area around the waterfalls and the river is the natural habitat for an enormous diversity of animals.

Face-to-face with wildlife

From your bike and during the safaris, you have a great chance of seeing classic African fauna. Think of elephants crossing the road, giraffes towering above the trees, and buffalo grazing on the savannah. Because we travel in a small group with experienced guides, we can get close safely to observe these animals in their natural habitat.

The boat cruise on the Nile

An activity that should not be missed is the boat cruise on the Nile towards the foot of the waterfall. From the water, you have a unique perspective. The banks are often packed with massive Nile crocodiles and groups of hippos. It is also a dream for bird lovers, with countless water birds living along the river. It is a moment of relaxation where your camera will be working overtime.

The power of the small group during the Uganda cycling holiday

At CvA travel, we consciously opt for a small-scale approach. You hit the road in groups of a minimum of 4 adventurers. This small setting ensures a personal atmosphere and a lot of flexibility. You are not just a number in a large bus, but part of a close-knit team of travellers who share the same passion for cycling and discovery.

Every group is accompanied by a dedicated guide and a driver with a support vehicle. This means there is always attention for you as an individual. Want to cycle a bit faster or perhaps take it easier? Thanks to the guidance, there is room for everyone’s skill level. Moreover, the guaranteed departure for small groups ensures that your trip almost always goes ahead.

Together yet flexible

The group dynamic makes the trip extra special. Facing challenges together, encouraging each other during a climb, and sharing the day’s stories by the campfire in the evening. At the same time, there is plenty of room for everyone’s own rhythm: you can cycle at your own pace along the way, while the support vehicle keeps a watchful eye.

Active discovery in Uganda: Mountain bike and E-mountain bike

This trip is designed for the active traveller who loves a challenge but also wants to enjoy themselves. The route largely goes over unpaved roads and paths, which we call the ‘African massage’ in Uganda. The terrain is varied and offers something for everyone.

Suitable for multiple levels

Thanks to the support of the escort vehicle and the option to rent an e-mountain bike, this trip is accessible to cyclists of various skill levels. Are you a seasoned mountain biker who wants to conquer every hill under your own steam? Fine. Would you prefer some support to save energy for the surroundings? Then the e-mountain bike is a godsend. Our Specialized bikes are top quality and perfectly tailored to Ugandan conditions.

Nature and culture hand in hand during the Uganda cycling holiday

In addition to the waterfalls and the wildlife, the route is also a cultural voyage of discovery. You cycle through parts of Uganda that tourists visit less frequently. This results in spontaneous and genuine encounters with the local population. Children run alongside the bikes waving, and in the villages, you get acquainted with the daily life of Ugandans.

The guide plays an important role in this. They are not just your cycling escort, but also your interpreter and cultural guide. They tell the stories behind the places you visit, such as the spiritual significance of the Ssezibwa Falls, and bridge the gap between you and the people you meet.

Daily Itinerary

Day-to-Day Programme: A 17-Day Group Tour Through Uganda

Below you will find the day-to-day cycling programme for the 17-day group tour through Uganda. This trip is suitable for mountain bikers. Prefer an e-bike? That’s possible too. One thing is for sure: with this group tour, you are guaranteed an unforgettable African experience that takes you to the most beautiful waterfalls, the most extraordinary national parks, and is packed with optional activities to make it a holiday you will never forget. Read on quickly to find out what you can expect.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kampala

As soon as you step off the plane and go through customs, you’ll feel it in everything: T.I.A. Or rather: This Is Africa. The customs officer will take the time to give you a warm welcome, immediately introducing you to the cheerful vibes of the Ugandan people. It feels incredibly welcoming and is the perfect start to your holiday. Welcome to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. A transfer will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to your first hotel in Entebbe.

In the afternoon, you will have time to prepare for the real work. It is time to assemble your mountain bike if you brought one. Would you rather have our expert Ugandan team help you the following morning? Not a problem at all. It’s your holiday. If you are renting a mountain bike, you don’t have to do a thing: the bike will be ready for you and after a few adjustments, you can take it straight away. Welcome to your group tour through Uganda. It’s really starting now.

    Meals: Not included

    Accommodation: 2 Friends Beach Hotel

  • Day 2: From Kampala to the Ssezibwa Falls

Today your ride starts early, right after breakfast. After a short transfer by boat, you hop on your bike and enjoy an adventurous ride over off-road paths. You will cycle past various communities just outside Kampala. The waterfalls, situated in a green, wooded area, create a hissing sound as the water cascades down through narrow openings between sharp rocks. Keep your eyes and ears open, by the way: you can find vervet and red-tailed monkeys in this area. Once you arrive at the ‘hidden gem’, the Ssezibwa Falls, you will enjoy a picnic lunch with the sound of the waterfalls in the background, including a beautiful view. Want to immediately enjoy all the beauty this group tour has to offer? Then also explore the cultural and historical significance of this spiritual place.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Bushbaby Lodge

  • Day 3: From the Ssezibwa Falls to the Griffin Falls

On day 3, it’s time for the next waterfalls. From Ssezibwa, it is time for the Griffin Falls. Before we arrive there, we cycle via off-road tracks past tea plantations, sugar cane plantations, and the natural tropical rainforest of Mabira. When we talk about an African jungle, we are talking about Mabira. Can you imagine cycling on your mountain bike along these forest paths, accompanied by numerous bird sounds and wild animals? At the Griffin Falls, there will be a guided tour, and for the true adventurers, a zip-line adventure awaits.

The zip-line takes you up into the forest canopy, where you will meet the jungle’s inhabitants, such as palm-nut vultures, African fish eagles, great blue turacos, red-tailed monkeys, and other elements that are quite elusive from the ground. From the zip-line, it is pure enjoyment: from the view over the rainforest, the feeling of being high up in the trees, the unfamiliar scents of the trees, and all the greenery around you. What an experience!

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Griffin Falls Camp

  • Day 4: The group tour through Uganda from Griffin Falls to Jinja

From the Griffin Falls, you cycle through the Mabira Forest, where you weave between ancient and gigantic trees, heading towards Jinja. Jinja is the source of the famous river Nile. This day consists of nothing but adventure: crisscrossing the forest, over dirt tracks, accompanied by monkeys, butterflies, and birds. Mountain biking is fun, but over these kinds of paths and through this environment, it is even better. As soon as you arrive at Jinja, you will jump onto a boat, bike and all, to be taken to the other side of the Nile. This perfect day couldn’t end any better than with a colourful sunset.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Nile River Explorers Camp

    Uganda
  • Day 5: Rest day in Jinja

On the fifth day of the group trip through Uganda, it is time for a rest day. And this takes place in Jinja, a place formerly known as a fishing village. Nowadays, it is also referred to as the adventure capital of Uganda. That certainly sounds promising. Besides walking, kayaking, and tubing, most adventurers actually come here for one thing only: white-water rafting.

CvA travel has been to many places, but rarely to places where rafting is as adventurous as this. There are almost nowhere in the world rapids quite like those found near Jinja. Will you step into the rubber raft on the turbulent river with various rapids, or do you prefer to watch from the banks and take photos? PS: safety comes first, so an extra safety boat always accompanies the trip.

Looking for a peaceful activity? Then take a sunset cruise on the Nile. Endless vistas, a colourful landscape, watching the sunset, and spotting animals has never been as beautiful as on this river.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Nile River Explorers Camp

    Optional activities (excluded):

    • Rafting on the Nile €180.00 p.p.

    • Sunset cruise €50.00 p.p.

  • Day 6: By mountain bike from Jinja to the Kalagala Falls

On the sixth day of this group tour, it is time to get back to mountain biking. Today you will follow the banks of the Nile, cycle over dirt tracks, again through authentic Ugandan communities and across the green countryside. Once more, you will be treated to waterfalls multiple times. Not 1, but 3: the Itanda Falls, Busowoka, and finally the Kalagala Falls.

At CvA travel, we often talk about hidden gems. The Itanda Falls are certainly one, being the second most powerful waterfall in all of Uganda after the Murchison Falls. Amidst the rapids, various natural islets have formed that offer a stunning view. Many water birds, such as cormorants, have claimed this area as their habitat. Day 6 doesn’t consist solely of cycling. Later in the day, you will step into a canoe—and yes, your bike comes with you—to cross to the other side of the Nile.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Wildwaters Lodge Kalagala

  • Day 7: From the Kalagala Falls towards Great Outdoors

On day 7, we are still following the banks of the famous Nile. Today, we immerse ourselves once again in the real Uganda and daily life. Yet, this day is not solely dedicated to mountain biking. There is also a transfer, where you are taken by car to Great Outdoors. This is the sanctuary for nature lovers. In the middle of the wooded surroundings, you can rest up, recover, and gather energy for the next cycling day on day 8. As you can see: a group tour through Uganda consists of cycling, relaxing, and enjoying. In need of some refreshment after all that hard work on the bike? Then take a lovely dip in the accommodation’s swimming pool.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: The Great Outdoors

  • Day 8: From Great Outdoors to Amuka

Today you cycle through a beautiful green environment. This is hardly surprising, because Uganda is often called the ‘green’ pearl of Africa, in addition to the Pearl of Africa. Gradually, the surroundings become flatter, meaning less climbing than the previous days.

Where we mostly see dairy farms in the Netherlands when cycling through the countryside, here it is pineapple farms. So we will definitely stop for some delicious fresh fruit to replenish our energy levels. At the end of the day, a transfer awaits to take you to Amuka Lodge.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Amuka Safari Lodge

  • Day 9: On foot in search of rhinos

Today starts with a rhino trek. Together with a ranger, you set off on foot to discover where these impressive, endangered animals live in their natural habitat.

A special fact: Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch is the place where the return of the white rhino in Uganda began. For years, this was the only place in the country where you could see them. Since 2005, an ambitious goal has been worked on here: returning the white rhino to its original habitat. In March 2026, this became a reality when the first rhinos were reintroduced in Kidepo.

Moreover, the trek is not just about the rhinos. You are in a rich nature reserve that is also home to other wild animals and a wide variety of birds — an experience that makes this morning even more complete.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Kabalega Resort

  • Day 10: Cycle from the Kabalega Resort to Budongo Forest

After yesterday’s impressive day, it’s time to jump back on the bikes. Off to the Budongo Forest. This ancient and natural forest borders the Murchison Falls National Park. The special thing about Budongo Forest is that it doesn’t just consist of forest, but also savannah. Moreover, it is the habitat of many wild animals, such as chimpanzees, other primate species like red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons, and many (rare) forest bird species.

Today, your mountain bike ride consists of hilly terrain with short, technical climbs. Brilliant: that’s exactly what you came for as a mountain biker, isn’t it? After these climbs, the area flattens out, and you later even descend towards Budongo Eco Resort.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Budongo Eco Resort

  • Day 11: Rest day in Budongo

This day is entirely yours to spend as you wish, with a choice of various activities. How about a chimpanzee trek, for example?

Additionally, you can go exploring in the Budongo Forest. Here you walk through a lush, green landscape, amongst imposing mahogany trees and surrounded by the sounds of the forest. The unspoiled nature and the chance to experience wild animals in their natural habitat make this a very special experience. It is exactly this variety and freedom that makes this group trip through Uganda so special.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Budongo Eco Resort

Optional activities (excluded): Chimpanzee trek in Budongo €250.00 p.p.

  • Day 12: To the Murchison Falls

A somewhat quieter day, with plenty of time in the morning to catch your breath. Late in the morning, you get into the car for the drive to Murchison Falls.

Lunch takes place in a very special location: at the top of the waterfalls. Here you experience up close just how overwhelmingly powerful and impressive this place is. The Nile forces itself through a gorge just six metres wide and then crashes down about 43 metres with enormous power. The roar, the splashing water, and the pure energy of nature leave a deep impression.

After this extraordinary moment, you travel onwards to Pakuba Safari Lodge, where you can relax and end the day peacefully with a good dinner.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge

Showing both waterfalls of the Murchison Falls also known as Kabalega Falls Oeganda
  • Day 13: Wildlife & boat tour

Early in the morning, you leave for a game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, in the savannahs of Murchison Falls National Park. As the first light turns the landscape gold, this is the moment when nature awakens and the animals are active. Together with your guide, you scour the vast plains. Elephants wander by peacefully, lions lie hidden in the tall grass, and Cape buffalo stand massive and unperturbed in the field. Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, and bushbucks also frequently show themselves here. With a bit of luck, a leopard might even cross your path.

After lunch, you swap the savannah for the water and take a boat trip upstream on the Nile, towards the foot of the waterfalls. The boat approaches within a few metres of the impressive ‘Devil’s Cauldron’, where the water converges with tremendous force. Along the banks, you will see groups of hippos bobbing in the water and crocodiles lying motionless on the sandbanks. Over a stretch of about 17 kilometres, there is a high chance that elephants, waterbucks, and Uganda kobs will also show themselves at the river.

Furthermore, this part of the Nile is a paradise for bird lovers. Species such as the Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelicans, kingfishers, and various hornbills feel completely at home here. With a bit of luck, you might even spot the rare shoebill stork — one of Africa’s most extraordinary birds.

Afterwards, you return to the lodge, where you can relax and let the impressions of the day sink in peacefully.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge

  • Day 14: An extra day in the Murchison Falls National Park

Some moments and some places deserve extra time. That certainly applies to this national park. One day simply isn’t enough, which is why we just head out for another day. On foot. You can choose to go for a walk in Rabongo Forest or Kaniyo Pabidi Forest. There is also a path right from the lodge, winding towards the river, to see animals, birds, and plants up close. And remember: safety first. So, ranger guides always accompany you during these activities.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge

  • Day 15: Transfer to Kampala

We can be short and sweet about this day. Today is all about the transfer back to Kampala. Unfortunately, this means the end of this group tour through Uganda is in sight. But… don’t forget to enjoy everything you come across during this car journey.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Red Chilli Hideaway

  • Day 16: Time to explore the capital

Although the group tour started near the capital of Uganda, we naturally haven’t had time to explore the city yet. Fortunately, there is time for that on the sixteenth day. Honestly? It’s quite a transition entering this metropolis from a serene environment. Kampala has 2 million inhabitants, and it can be quite hectic. Yet, you don’t want to miss this experience. At the same time, the hustle and bustle has its charm and it’s always buzzing. The boda-bodas manoeuvre undisturbed through the busy crowds, there is no shortage of souvenir shops, and the nightlife is in full swing here.

Are your legs still fit enough for 300 steps? Then check out the amazing view over the city from the Uganda National Mosque, order a delicious local lunch, and grab a beer to finish it off. Almost, that is, because in the evening it is highly recommended to explore Kampala ‘by night’.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Accommodation: Red Chilli Hideaway

  • Day 17: Time to conclude your group tour in Uganda

After a final night in your lovely accommodation, this group tour truly comes to an end. All the wonderful moments are stored on your camera and in your memories, and with a satisfied feeling, it is time to head back home. Depending on your flight time, you might still have time to spend the morning in Kampala before being taken to the airport.

Useful Information

The skill level of this trip is mixed

This means you will cycle in one group with travellers of various skill levels. And that goes together effortlessly. Do you find a stage too tough? Then you simply get in the car and rejoin later. In the national parks, we always cycle together: safe and a special experience to share with one another.

If you are travelling with a fitter partner or travel companion, an e-mountain bike is ideal. This way, everyone cycles at their own pace, yet you still share the same unique experience. Our local guides know the terrain inside out, guide you along the most beautiful routes, and assess on the spot which paths best suit the group – always putting the overall experience first.

Good to Know

This cycling holiday requires a minimum of 4 participants to depart. You can count on 1 guide and 1 driver per 4 participants. Instead of a group tour through Uganda, would you rather book an individual trip? That is, of course, also possible. Request a no-obligation quote, and we will gladly think along with you personally to ensure this trip fully meets your wishes.

What is the best time to travel to Uganda?

Uganda is a beautiful, green country on the equator. As a result, it is always tropically warm. Do you want to spot gorillas or go on a safari? The good news is that you can visit Uganda all year round. The country is always green and fertile. Still, it is smart to take the seasons into account.

The dry periods are the most popular

Most travellers opt for the dry seasons. The chance of sunshine is highest then, and the paths in the parks are easily passable. The best months are May to October, and December to February.

The rainy season is green and quiet

Because Uganda is a tropical country, there can always be a shower. That is exactly what creates such beautiful green nature! There are two periods with more rain: March to April (the long rainy season), and November (the short rainy season). Do not let this put you off. The rain showers are often short and heavy. They usually fall at night or in the late afternoon. Afterwards, the sun often shines again.

Why travel in the rainy season?

Travelling in these months actually has its advantages! It is much quieter in the parks (fewer tourists). Nature is at its most beautiful: everything is fresh and bright green. You will not be bothered by dust on the roads.

Pleasant temperatures

Uganda is located on the equator, but because the country is also at a high altitude, the heat is not oppressive. The temperature is very pleasant. In the capital, Kampala, for example, it is 26°C on average.

The north: Here the land is lower, which means it is often warmer.

The south: Here you will find high mountains and volcanoes. It cools down nicely here in the evenings. A warm jumper or fleece jacket is therefore an absolute must-have for the evening hours.
