The journey continues after lunch in Mbale, from the base of Mount Elgon, a dormant volcano straddling the Uganda-Kenya border. As you climb into the lush greenery of Mount Elgon National Park, you’ll pass coffee plantations and banana fields, following rugged paths that cut through breathtaking landscapes.

Arriving at Sipi Falls by sunset is a moment to remember. As the golden light fades, settle in at Home of Friends Guesthouse with a refreshing drink, soaking in panoramic views while dusk settles over the landscape.

  • Day 3: Rest Day at Sipi Falls

After a good night’s sleep, the day begins with a guided hike to the breathtaking Sipi Falls. You’ll explore the three largest waterfalls, each cascading down the lush, emerald-green slopes of Mount Elgon. As you wander from one fall to the next, you’ll pass through small farms, vibrant flowers unfamiliar to the European eye, and endless coffee and banana plantations.
The afternoon offers you two equally fascinating options. For coffee enthusiasts, a guided coffee tour with a local family is a must. Discover every step of the coffee-making process and feel like part of the family. You’ll even learn how to drink coffee their way—rich, fresh, and full of flavour.

If cultural discovery is more your style, opt for the cave experience. Visit the ancestral home of the Sabiny people, a natural cave steeped in history and tradition. • Day 4: First Cycling Stage to Pian Upe National Park

Finally, it’s time to hit the trails. After breakfast, you set off on your bike, pedalling along the rugged slopes of Mount Elgon. Narrow cattle paths carve through lush vegetation, with sweeping views stretching out before you. The descent is fast and exhilarating, leaves rustling as you glide downhill. Reaching flatter ground, you push forward towards the endless plains of the Karamoja region. The landscape opens up, wild and untamed. Cross the bridge, and you’ve officially entered Pian Upe National Park.

The scenery is spectacular. To your left, the imposing Mount Elgon rises like a sleeping giant. To your right, Mount Kadam stands tall against the horizon. Between them, a vast, open expanse dotted with rocky outcrops and scattered greenery. Keep your eyes peeled – wildlife is everywhere. Zebras graze in the distance, while birds of prey circle overhead. You might even catch a glimpse of a shy antelope darting through the brush.

By early afternoon, you arrive at Pian Upe Eco Camp, just outside the park. After settling in, you’ll head out for a guided nature walk. As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, you’ll soak in the beauty of this untouched wilderness.

Herds of zebra and gazelle dart across your path, their hooves thudding against the ground. Nearby, buffalo graze peacefully, their tails flicking lazily in the afternoon heat. Above, birds of prey circle the sky, their sharp eyes scanning for movement below. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of a cheetah slinking gracefully through the tall grass. The ride is demanding but rewarding. As you push further into the park, you gain a true sense of its immense scale and untouched beauty. Stopping for a picnic lunch in the shade of a sprawling tree, you soak in the tranquillity of your surroundings.

Later that afternoon, you arrive at your camp – rustic yet inviting, with the sounds of the wild lulling you to sleep under a sky brimming with stars.

  • 6: Cycling to Kosike

Prepare for a journey that’s both challenging and awe-inspiring. Today, you’re deep in the Karamoja region, surrounded by culture and traditions that have thrived here for generations. Your ride begins along the base of Mount Kadam, the mountain’s rugged slopes casting long shadows over the trail. After about 20 kilometres, the climb begins. It’s tough, but as you ascend, the views are worth every pedal stroke – endless landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see, bathed in golden sunlight.
As you continue, everything around you feels different. People’s attire, the structure of their homes, the very rhythm of their language – it all shifts as you travel deeper into this remote area. Occasionally, a dromedary camel scuttles past, hardly noticed by the locals but a curious sight for you.

After lunch, you switch gears for a cultural experience like no other. A village tour takes you right into the heart of local life. You visit traditional homes, learning how milk and food are preserved – a method that can keep supplies fresh for over a year. It’s a fascinating glimpse into their resilience and creativity.

Back on your bike, you cycle another 15 kilometres until you reach a river. The cool water is an irresistible invitation. After a refreshing dip, you complete the final stretch to Kayla Peace Village, where warmth and hospitality await.

  • Day 7: Cycling Safari into Kenya

Today’s ride is pure adventure. You set off along a rugged single track, the crunch of gravel beneath your tyres echoing through the crisp morning air. After around 30 kilometres of pedalling, you reach the border and cross into Kenya. The landscape shifts – rolling hills rise and fall, the air feels cooler and fresher, and the scenery grows more dramatic with every kilometre.

The journey to Lake Turkwel is both challenging and exhilarating. Steep climbs test your endurance, followed by sharp descents that send your heart racing. But each effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of the shimmering lake below, its calm surface reflecting the golden hues of the afternoon sun.

As you approach Lake Turkwel, you feel a sense of serenity. Calm waters stretch out before you, surrounded by rugged hills and sweeping golden plains. The tranquillity here is almost surreal.
Later in the afternoon, you embark on a boat trip across the lake. The gentle rocking of the boat, the cool breeze against your skin, and the panoramic views leave you feeling completely at peace. As the sun dips lower, you take a refreshing swim in the cool, clear water – a perfect way to end a rewarding day of cycling.
Dinner is served by the water’s edge – freshly caught fish grilled to perfection, its flavour enhanced by the day’s adventure. The night ends by the campfire, your eyes drawn to a sky brimming with stars.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
    Accommodation: Camping by the lake

  • Day 8: Cycling from Lake Turkwel to Moroto

You wake up to the rich, earthy aroma of freshly brewed Kenyan coffee. The air is cool and refreshing, carrying the promise of a new day. As the sun begins its ascent, it casts a soft glow over the lake, turning the water into a mirror of gold and blue. After a hearty breakfast and a refreshing bucket shower – a truly authentic African experience – you’re ready to take on the trails once again. Today’s cycling route leads you back across the border into Uganda. The terrain changes beneath your tyres, from rugged, rocky paths to smoother trails as you progress.

The air grows warmer, and the landscape gradually transforms. Lush greenery begins to emerge, breaking up the arid plains with vibrant patches of life. As you approach Moroto, the contrast between dry, sun-baked plains and verdant foothills becomes striking.

Arriving at Karamoja Safari Camp feels like a homecoming. With a cool drink in hand, you settle into the relaxed atmosphere, reflecting on your incredible journey so far. It’s the perfect place to unwind and savour the experiences you’ve gathered along the way.

Your day begins with a gentle nature walk at the base of Mount Moroto, led by a knowledgeable local guide. As you ascend the lower slopes, the crisp mountain air fills your lungs, and your eyes are treated to panoramic views of the sprawling plains below. The mountain, an ancient volcano and the tallest in the Karamoja region, rises majestically above the semi-arid landscape.

Along the way, you pass through traditional villages where locals greet you with warmth and curiosity. Children wave enthusiastically, and the gentle hum of daily life surrounds you. It’s a chance to connect with the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this unique region.

The afternoon is yours to rest and recharge. Later in the day, you visit an authentic Karamojong nomadic camp. Welcomed with open arms, you’re even given your own Karamojong name – an honour that speaks of true hospitality. Taste local brews and experience traditions passed down through generations. The drive itself is an experience. As you pass through rolling landscapes, your eyes are drawn to massive granite outcrops jutting skyward. The scenery is dramatic, with patches of green breaking up the rugged terrain and sunlight casting shadows over the hills.

Once you arrive at Kaabong Resort, the rest of the day is yours. Unwind and soak in the tranquillity of this remote location. You ride through pristine terrain where every turn brings something new. The scent of wildflowers mingles with the earthy aroma of the land, and the gentle rustle of leaves is broken only by the calls of distant birds.

The day’s ride is challenging. You tackle a series of climbs and descents, each offering fresh perspectives of the surrounding beauty. As the terrain becomes steeper, you push onwards, your breath steady and determined. Finally, you reach an altitude of 2,000 metres. The effort is worth every pedal stroke. From the summit, you’re rewarded with breathtaking views stretching out across the landscape – an endless panorama of hills, plains, and sky.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Day 12: From Timu to Kidepo National Park

After yesterday’s challenging climbs, today’s ride feels like pure exhilaration. You begin with a 20-kilometre descent through the Morungole Central Forest Reserve. The air is cool and crisp, filled with the scent of earth and foliage as you race downhill. Though the path is rugged and dotted with small climbs, the beauty of the landscape more than compensates. Lush, green plains stretch out before you, interrupted only by the occasional herd of wildlife grazing in the distance. It’s a view that feels timeless and untouched.

Then comes the final test: The Fly Challenge. A thrilling 20-kilometre descent meant to be completed in 30 minutes – a race against the persistent horseflies that inhabit the area. Whether you embrace the challenge or choose a more leisurely ride, the experience is unforgettable. As you reach the base of Kidepo National Park, you’re greeted by one of Uganda’s most remote and pristine parks. Here, the true African wilderness thrives, undisturbed and pure.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Namoni Ecocamp Lodge / Kidepo Savannah Lodge

  • Day 13: Last Day of Cycling in Kidepo National Park

Today’s cycling safari offers a final, thrilling encounter with Uganda’s wild beauty. As you embark on your ride through Kidepo National Park, the air feels crisp and charged with excitement. Accompanied by armed rangers for safety, you set off on a relaxed 20-kilometre ride through one of Uganda’s most untouched landscapes. The crunch of gravel beneath your tyres, the scent of dry grass carried on the breeze, and the occasional rustle of wildlife all heighten your senses.

Every turn brings a new spectacle. Herds of zebras graze under the morning sun, giraffes stride gracefully across the plains, and buffalo move in slow, deliberate patterns. If you’re lucky, you may even catch sight of a cheetah darting through the tall grass or hear the distant roar of a lion.

The serenity of this wild terrain is only interrupted by the occasional call of a ranger, pointing out a hidden animal or offering a story of the park’s incredible biodiversity. Today’s ride is not just a journey; it’s a connection to the raw, untamed spirit of Kidepo National Park.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Namoni Ecocamp Lodge / Kidepo Savannah Lodge

  • Day 14: Transfer to Kampala

Today marks a transition from the remote wilderness to the vibrant pulse of urban life. You’ll be transferred from Kidepo National Park to Amuka Safari Lodge – a journey that gives you ample time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past weeks.

As you gaze out of the window, the landscapes shift from wild, untamed savannah to greener, more cultivated areas. Rolling hills, small villages, and patches of forest pass by, painting a vivid picture of rural Uganda.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
    Accommodation: Amuka Safari Lodge

  • Day 15: Searching for the White Rhino

Today brings a completely different kind of adventure. You’re headed to Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch, home to Uganda’s only wild white rhinos. This sanctuary was established in 2005 to reintroduce these majestic animals to their natural habitat within the Murchison Falls region.

Rather than cycling, today’s exploration involves a guided walking safari. As you track the rhinos on foot, every sound and movement takes on new significance. The crunch of leaves underfoot, the low rumble of a nearby rhino, the scent of damp earth – it’s a sensory experience like no other. Standing just metres away from such powerful creatures, you feel a profound respect for their strength and resilience. It’s a humbling, unforgettable encounter.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
    Accommodation: Yellow Heaven Lodge

  • Day 16: Exploring Vibrant Kampala

Today, you leave the wilderness behind and dive into the lively energy of Kampala – Uganda’s bustling capital, built across seven hills and home to over two million people. It’s a striking contrast to the peaceful landscapes you’ve experienced so far.

Kampala is a city of contrasts. Its modern districts pulse with nightlife, luxury shopping centres, and elegant restaurants, while its traditional quarters are alive with small markets, locally-owned shops, and rich cultural heritage.

Climb the 300 steps to the Uganda National Mosque for sweeping views of the city’s skyline. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, hop on the back of a boda boda (motorbike taxi) and experience Kampala’s chaotic traffic first-hand. Just be sure to pick a safe ride – helmet and orange vest included. In the evening, you’ll gather with your group for a final farewell dinner. Local dishes, freshly brewed Ugandan beer, and stories of your journey shared around the table – it’s the perfect way to conclude your Uganda Cycling Safari.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
    Accommodation: Yellow Heaven Lodge

You actively seek out the toughest challenges, not just to conquer them but because you genuinely enjoy the thrill of the ride. Perfecting your technique, mastering difficult terrain, and feeling the rush of adrenaline drive you forward. While you admire Uganda’s landscapes, your mind is always focused on the next thrilling descent or technical climb.
