Travelling Together in Vietnam: Experiencing the Country as a Couple
Why Vietnam is the Ultimate Destination to Discover Together
When you choose to travel together in Vietnam, you are choosing an adventure that enriches your relationship. Many couples hesitate between a relaxing holiday and an active holiday. Vietnam offers the perfect mix. It is not a destination where you spend two weeks lying on a sun lounger, but neither is it a place where you are struggling 24/7. It is a country of balance. The hustle and bustle of the cities is alternated with the serene peace of the rice paddies. The physical exertion of cycling is rewarded with relaxing massages and luxurious dinners.
What makes Vietnam unique is its atmosphere. The country has a romantic feel, but not in a clichéd way. It is in the little things: cycling together along a small embankment as the sun sets over the Mekong Delta, or walking hand in hand through the illuminated streets of Hoi An. Because the country is so safe, you feel free. You can go wherever you please. There is no need for constant vigilance, meaning you can truly focus on each other and your surroundings. Moreover, the service in Vietnam is world-class. You will be pampered as guests, providing that special holiday feeling you look for when you are away with your partner.

Romance and Atmosphere in Hoi An and Hue
No trip through Vietnam is complete without a visit to the atmospheric cities in Central Vietnam. Hoi An, in particular, is often called the most romantic city in Southeast Asia. And rightly so. The old town is pedestrianised, which means you can enjoy cycling and walking here without any honking. The streets are draped with thousands of colourful lanterns that provide a fairytale illumination in the evenings.
Hoi An is all about enjoyment. You can get tailor-made clothing together here – a fun activity to pick out fabrics and designs as a couple. Take a boat trip on the Thu Bon River at sunset and release a paper lantern with a candle onto the water, a local tradition for good luck. The atmosphere here is relaxed, with countless cafés and restaurants perfect for a dinner for two.
Hue, the former imperial capital, offers a different kind of romance: one of history and grandeur. Here, you cycle along the banks of the Perfume River to the old citadels and emperors’ tombs. It is quieter and greener than other cities. A visit to one of the garden houses, where you can have a peaceful lunch in a beautiful courtyard, is highly recommended for couples who love history and tranquillity.
Day-to-Day Plan: Balance Between Action and Quality Time
A pitfall of many tours is an overcrowded itinerary. Getting up early every day, cycling every day, excursions every day. When travelling together in Vietnam, we ensure the right balance. After all, you also want time for each other. We plan the cycling routes so that you are mostly active in the morning. That is when it is still cool and the light is stunning.
Around lunchtime, you are often at your destination or a lovely rest spot. We regularly keep the afternoons free. This gives you the space to decide what to do yourselves. A swim at the hotel? Reading a book on the terrace? Or wandering back into that little village? Nothing is mandatory, everything is allowed. We also schedule rest days in strategic locations, for example in Hoi An or by the beach. This prevents you from getting overtired and keeps your energy levels up until the final day.
We can also structure the trip around themes. Starting with culture in Hanoi, then the active part in the mountains, and ending with romance and relaxation on the coast. Because it is a private tour, we can completely tailor this schedule to your rhythm. Are you morning people? Then we start early. Prefer to sleep in? We will adjust the route accordingly.

Share Culture, Food, and Encounters on the Bike
The bicycle is the ultimate mode of transport for shaping your journey together in Vietnam. In a bus or car, you sit behind glass and watch the world pass by like a film. On a bike, you are right in the middle of it. You cycle next to each other (where possible) or one behind the other and experience the surroundings with all your senses. You smell the jasmine, you feel the temperature drop as you ride into a forest, and you hear the children calling out.
The pace of the bicycle dictates the rhythm of your trip. It is slow enough to notice details, but fast enough to cover a lot of the country. Stopping along the way is easy. Spot a beautiful place for a photo? Brake and enjoy it. Fancy an iced coffee at that nice little roadside stall? Just do it. This freedom is essential. You determine your own day, free from the rigid tour schedules of large groups.
The E-bike as an Equaliser
Sometimes there is a difference in fitness levels between partners. One might cycle 100 kilometres every week at home, while the other only cycles to the supermarket. This can cause friction during an active holiday. At CvA travel, we solve this with the E-bike. If one of you (or both) chooses an electric bike, the difference in levels vanishes. You can then enjoy the surroundings together, at the same pace, without one getting bored or the other pedalling to the point of exhaustion. This keeps cycling fun for both of you.
Unforgettable Encounters
Because there are just the two of you, you are approachable. A large group of tourists can be intimidating for locals, but a couple on bicycles arouses sympathy and curiosity. You will notice that people often try to strike up a conversation. Using gestures, or with the help of your guide, chats arise about children, family, and work. The Vietnamese are incredibly family-oriented and love seeing you visit their country together.
